Webinar: C-Section Recovery and Support: A Doula-Informed Conversation
Recovering from a C-section can bring a range of physical and emotional changes as families adjust to life with a new baby.
When supporting families after a C-section, Registered Nurses in the Welcome Baby program help families understand what to expect during recovery, address questions and concerns, recognize when additional support may be needed, and connect families to appropriate resources and care.
In an LA Best Babies Network-hosted webinar on September 1, 2026 — for Registered Nurses and other staff of our network’s home visiting organizations and Welcome Baby hospitals — Giuditta Tornetta, Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula and Maia Weisenhaus, Birth Doula, discussed:
- C-section recovery: What families can expect during the physical and emotional recovery process following a C-section
- Postpartum support: Ways doulas and home visitors can support families as they navigate recovery, rest, healing, and the transition into parenthood
- Common questions and concerns: Practical guidance for addressing questions and challenges that may come up during C-section recovery
- Supporting families with confidence: Strategies for providing compassionate, informed support and helping families connect with additional resources or care when needed
This webinar was not recorded, but see the slides and other resources below.
About the presenters:
Giuditta Tornetta is the founder of the Joy In Birthing Foundation. She is an experienced doula, clinical hypnotherapist, lactation educator, NLP practitioner, and shiatsu therapist with more than 30 years of experience in childbirth and postpartum care. In 2014, Giuditta founded the Joy In Birthing Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to providing professional doula services to low-income families. The foundation supports more than 150 women annually, helping ensure they receive the care and resources they need throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
Maia Weisenhaus is a birth doula with experience in maternal-fetal medicine and neonatal care. She completed her pre-medical studies at Columbia University and worked in maternal-fetal medicine at L.A. County, where she gained experience supporting families navigating a wide range of high-risk pregnancies and deliveries. This experience inspired her to become a doula and provide compassionate, direct support throughout pregnancy and childbirth.
