Webinar: Helping Families Thrive: Early Breastfeeding & Pumping Support
For many parents, feeding and breastfeeding can bring both joy and uncertainty as they navigate milk supply, feeding patterns, pumping, supplementation, and common breastfeeding challenges.
During this important period, Parent Coaches in the Welcome Baby program play a valuable role in providing families with practical support, education, and encouragement.
In an LA Best Babies Network-hosted webinar on August 25, 2026 — for Parent Coaches and other staff of our network’s home visiting organizations and Welcome Baby hospitals — Jessica Neubauer, Registered Nurse and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, discussed:
- Milk supply and early breastfeeding: How milk supply is established, prioritizing breastfeeding in the first days, and recognizing normal feeding patterns like cluster feeding and growth spurts
- Effective feeding and supplementation: How to assess feeding effectiveness using the GROW method, when supplementation may be needed, and when feeding concerns warrant referral to a doctor or IBCLC
- Pumping and bottle-to-breast transition: When and why to pump, types of pumps and flanges, maximizing pumping efficiency, and transitioning from bottle to breast, especially after a NICU stay
- Common breastfeeding challenges: Practical strategies for managing engorgement, clogged ducts, mastitis, and other common concerns
- Infant sleep and feeding expectations: Understanding early postpartum sleep patterns, when babies may begin sleeping longer stretches, and how sleep relates to feeding needs
This is Part One of a two-part breastfeeding and pumping series, focusing on the first two months of a baby’s life. Part Two will build on these foundations and cover breastfeeding and pumping from two months through the baby’s first year.
