Spotlight on the Staff: Veronica Galvez

LA Best Babies Network’s Staff Spotlight series features staff from the Welcome Baby, Healthy Families America, and Parents as Teachers home visiting programs in Los Angeles County’s Family Strengthening Network.

On any given day, you might find Veronica Galvez, the Administrative Assistant for Human Services Association’s Parents as Teachers (PAT) program, helping staff prepare for Group Connections, coordinating the delivery of emergency essentials for families, or working behind the scenes to support program operations. You might also spot her in the community promoting the benefits of home visiting and helping parents find their way to her site’s PAT program.

While Veronica doesn’t provide direct services to families enrolled in the PAT program, her role is essential to the program’s success. She provides key support to staff so they can help families thrive.

“I’m proud to support programs like Parents as Teachers by helping ensure that educators have what they need to empower parents as their child’s first and most important teachers,” Veronica says.

She has been in her role for a little over two years, and she says that each day has strengthened her commitment to supporting the staff and program. Her passion for community work, however, began long before she joined the Human Services Association team.

Previously, she served as a domestic violence advocate. “This is where I saw firsthand the importance of a strong support system, compassionate services, and empowering families during difficult times,” she says.

After doing this work for over 20 years, she took some time to focus on her family.

When she returned to the workforce, she sought a role that allowed her to serve the community in a meaningful way. Joining the Human Service Association’s team as an Administrative Assistant was the perfect fit.

“What I love most about what I do is knowing that the support I provide truly makes a difference for both staff and families,” she says. “Being part of a team that works collaboratively to support parents and strengthen families makes my position incredibly meaningful.”

She also credits her supervisor for helping her grow in her role.

“I’m especially grateful for the guidance and encouragement of my supervisor, Tanya, whose support has helped me grow and feel valued in my work.”

That appreciation goes both ways.

Tanya, Program Supervisor for the PAT program, describes Veronica as someone who consistently goes above and beyond. “Veronica has the passion and takes the time to learn all that is needed to facilitate the delivery of services. She is a hard and dedicated worker who continues to not only adapt to new situations, but also takes the initiative to suggest ideas that facilitate the day-to-day activities that she performs and keeps the program more organized.”

Home visiting works — and it’s because of dedicated people like Veronica, whose passion for the work helps make a lasting difference in the lives of L.A. County’s youngest residents and their families.

Thank you, Veronica, for your passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to ensuring home visiting staff have the tools and support they need to help the families they serve!
