Home Visiting Day 2026: Standing With Families: Reflecting, Responding & Rebuilding Trust Together

Los Angeles County celebrated the fifth annual Home Visiting Day on April 17, 2026, marking another meaningful milestone for community organizations, hospitals, and agencies across the county. Observed every third Friday in April in Los Angeles, Home Visiting Day has grown from a local celebration into a broader statewide movement. From now on, April 20–24 will officially recognized as Home Visiting Week in California.

This year’s theme, Standing With Families: Reflecting, Responding & Rebuilding Trust Together, highlighted the importance of partnership, trust, and community-centered support in home visiting work.

In recognition of the day, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors issued an official proclamation on April 7, 2026, through a motion introduced by Hilda L. Solis and Lindsey Horvath. Additional proclamations were issued by the cities of Palmdale and Pomona, further underscoring the growing recognition of home visiting’s impact.

To celebrate, the L.A. County Home Visiting Consortium hosted its second annual in-person event at the Friendship Auditorium near Griffith Park. The gathering brought together more than 150 attendees, including home visitors, families, advocates, and community partners, all united in celebrating the power of home visiting services across the county.

The event opened with remarks from Anna Ghukasyan, Consortium Coordinator and LABBN’s Senior Policy Research Associate, who introduced the group of speakers: Diana Careaga, Director of Family Supports at First 5 LA, Kathryn Ewing, Senior Public Health Research Associate at LABBN, and Leticia Casillas-Sanchez, Director of Early Childhood at Children Now. A big thanks to First 5 LA for generously funding the event.

Darneshia Allen delivered a keynote address on “Making Meaningful Connections: Harnessing Relationships to Enhance Engagement.” Now the Manager of Training and Technical Assistance Integration for Safe Babies at ZERO TO THREE, Darneshia has more than 30 years of experience working with young children. Her background includes intensive work with families in urban communities, and years of experience in Early Care and Education.

A powerful panel discussion followed, featuring home visitors and families who shared their lived experiences. Panelists included: Erin Sheehan, a Home Visitor from Partnership for Families (Help Group), and her clients Ashley Lewis and Harry Stoner; Uri Flores, a Home Visitor from Foothill Family Services, and her client Miriam Hernandez; Yadira Covarrubias, a doula with the L.A. County Department of Public Social Services and her client Tieler Tyson.

Attendees also had the opportunity to connect with community resource providers, including: LA Care, Blue Shield Promise Health Plan, Help Me Grow LA, L.A. County Department of Public Social Services, L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services – Young Children Birth to 5, Los Angeles County African American Infant and Maternal Mortality Prevention Initiative, Lundquist WIC Program, and Harbor Regional Center. These resource tables provided valuable information to help home visitors support the families they serve.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Laura Kainsinger, Program Officer at First 5 LA.

As Home Visiting Day continues to grow, so does the movement to uplift and support families across L.A. County and beyond. To learn more about last year’s celebration, read our recap and First 5 LA’s recap. The next Home Visiting Day in L.A. County will be celebrated on April 16, 2027.
