Webinar: Postpartum Pelvic Floor Healing

[Editor’s note: This blog post was updated June 2024 to include a link to a similar webinar recorded on May 20, 2024, for Welcome Baby Parent Coaches. It is linked below.]

The arrival of a baby means lots of changes — and plenty of questions about caring for the newborn and recovering after giving birth. Home visiting programs like Welcome Baby and its partner services in L.A. County help parents find answers and get the support they need.

A few days after getting out of the hospital, families enrolled in Welcome Baby get a checkup from a Registered Nurse in the comfort of the family’s home. During the visit the RN answers any questions, while also conducting assessments and providing helpful tools and education on several relevant topics.

In this webinar — hosted by LA Best Babies Network on February 21, 2024, for Welcome Baby Registered Nurses and other staff in our network — Dr. Carlin Reaume discusses postpartum pelvic floor healing, an important topic home visitors can address with clients recovering from childbirth. (We also hosted a similar webinar for Welcome Baby Parent Coaches on May 20, 2024.)

During her presentation, she:

  • Reviews the anatomy of the pelvic floor
  • Discusses common physiological changes that occur within the pelvic floor during delivery and after giving birth
  • Shares about the relationship between breath, posture, and body mechanics on pelvic floor health
  • Outlines specific strategies to support pelvic floor healing after giving birth

About the presenter:

Dr. Carlin Reaume is a licensed occupational therapist with a board certification in Lifestyle Medicine (DipACLM) and additional specialty certifications in pelvic health, Pilates, Pregnancy & Postpartum Corrective Exercise (PCES), and Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C). Dr. Reaume is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), a graduate of Loyola Marymount University’s Yoga Therapy RX Certificate Program, and a certified postpartum doula. She has presented her work as a perinatal health expert at professional conferences and academic institutions throughout the country, and has been featured on numerous podcasts. The Amazon Halo fitness app and Pilates.com have also featured her work.
