Webinar: Empowering Families on the Breastfeeding Journey: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Enhancing Support in Bedside Lactation Care
How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk? Is breastfeeding painful? How often is milk made? Why does it hurt when I pump? These are some of the common questions that expecting families and new parents ask the Welcome Baby program‘s Hospital Liaisons, Parent Coaches, and RNs.
As Certified Lactation Educators, these home visiting professionals are trained to help parents feel comfortable with breastfeeding so they can achieve their infant feeding goals. To keep them at the top of their game, they also attend events like the webinar below to learn about the latest best practices and new community resources related to this topic.
In this webinar — hosted by LA Best Babies Network on November 16, 2023, for staff in our network of home visiting organizations and Welcome Baby hospitals — Lynnette Bello:
- Provides a general overview of the most recent breast/chestfeeding and skin-to-skin recommendations and discusses the benefits of each
- Outlines strategies staff can use to educate clients about what to expect early on during their breastfeeding journey and the reasons for common lactation issues, including how to identify the cause of a breastfeeding challenge/issue someone is experiencing and ways they can provide support
- Shares how to address prevalent breast/chestfeeding-related questions and concerns that arise at bedside
- Highlights breast/chestfeeding resources available for families that can support their lactation journey after they have been discharged
About the presenter:
Lynnette Bello, BA, IBCLC, is the Welcome Baby Program Supervisor at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach. She has worked in the field of lactation and maternal child health for the past 18 years in Orange County and L.A. County. Lynnette started her career as a home visitor for the Raise Foundation in Orange County with the Bridges Program. From there, she went on to complete her International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification to help support families and advocate for breastfeeding. Lynnette worked as the lead on the Baby Friendly initiative at St. Mary Medical Center prior to her current role. In addition to her supervisory role for Welcome Baby, she is also a practicing IBCLC at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach and Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Lynnette also leads BreastfeedLA’s Filipino Baby Café – Dede Diner. She remains an avid supporter of home visiting because she continues to see the benefits it brings to families and the whole the community.
