Webinar: Connecting With WIC in L.A. County

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is a valuable resource that provides pregnant women, new moms, and families with young children with access to healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and connections to support services that promote healthy lifestyles. L.A. County families have more ways than ever to connect with and benefit from WIC!

LA Best Babies Network hosted a webinar about WIC on October 3, 2024, for Welcome Baby Outreach Specialists and other staff from our network’s home visiting organizations and Welcome Baby hospitals. Three presenters, all from Public Health Foundation Enterprise WIC (PHFE WIC), led the webinar:

  • Blanca Vargas, MPA, RDN (Senior Manager, Outreach Department)
  • Cindy Clapp, MS, RDN, IBCLC (Deputy Director, Breastfeeding Services)
  • Sagrario Nielsen, MS, RDN (Deputy Director, Nutrition Services and Projects)

PHFE WIC, a program of Heluna Health, is the largest nonprofit WIC nutrition network in the U.S., serving more than 180,000 low-income individuals each month.

Together, the three presenters:

  • Explained the WIC breastfeeding services and support available
  • Reviewed the process for requesting therapeutic formula for WIC families
  • Outlined the hybrid services WIC offers
  • Provided an overview of the PHFE WIC website, including how families can use it to begin the enrollment process
  • Shared how PHFE WIC is encouraging Welcome Baby referrals from their program
