Breastfeeding support is one of the many benefits of home visiting. The needs of families vary widely in this area, so it’s important that home visiting professionals know how to provide support for all their clients, including those who identify as transgender and non-binary.
In this webinar — hosted by LA Best Babies Network on August 25, 2022, for staff in our network of home visiting organizations and Welcome Baby hospitals — Jacob Engelsman, an International Board of Lactation Consultant:
- Defines terms related to transgender support and provides examples of gender-neutral language
- Explains the different steps people may take when they decide to transition and how these steps may affect milk production
- Provides tips on how to apply inclusive language to client notation and intake forms
- Shares ways to make the workspace a more gender-inclusive environment
