Mom of 6 Breastfeeds for the First Time, Thanks to Welcome Baby
August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Here’s a good story to celebrate that!
Claudia, a mother of six, proudly reported that she was able to breastfeed for the first time with her youngest — thanks to the guidance and encouragement she received from the Welcome Baby program at Emanate Health Queen of the Valley Hospital.
“Welcome Baby helped me a lot because this is my first baby in seven years. At first it was hard because I was a mother starting all over. When [Welcome Baby Parent Coach] Crystal came, she helped me a lot, especially with breastfeeding.”
With Crystal’s support, Claudia found the confidence and tools she needed, proving it’s never too late. “When I first had my son, I was having trouble breastfeeding. I didn’t know how and he was crying a lot. When Crystal came, she started coaching me how to breastfeed and the ways I could position the baby.”
It took Claudia a few days to adjust to breastfeeding, but she continued for many months. She says that raising her son with the support of Welcome Baby has felt noticeably different from her experience with her other children.
“With breastfeeding, he’s a happy boy and smiling all the time. With my other five kids, I didn’t breastfeed them because we had no one to teach us how. When you have someone that’s there for you that’s going to teach you from start to finish how to breastfeed, you create a bond with the baby. It’s a precious moment that you have together.”
