Looking for Guidance, Family Turns to Welcome Baby

As first-time parents, Cristina and Miguel knew they would have lots of questions about how to help their new baby get a healthy start. They were happy to learn that there was a free program that provides answers β€” and much more.

β€œAn important thing about the program is that they inform you about what you can expect your child to start doing based on his age, and you start learning,” says Miguel. He says the Welcome Baby program, which they participated in through MemorialCare Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Long Beach, initially appealed to him because he thought it would help him help his wife. But when they completed the program, both parents had gotten more out of it than they had expected.

In this video they share some of the ways their family has benefited, and continues to benefit, from Welcome Baby:

MemorialCare Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Long Beach is one of 14 hospitals in L.A. County that offer the Welcome Baby program, which is completely free and funded by First 5 LA. It is a part of the Family Strengthening Network, a network of agencies and hospitals working together to support families throughout Los Angeles County by providing home visiting services. In the 2017-18 fiscal year, over 15,000 families received services through the Network.
