How to Support Pregnant and Parenting Teens
This week, at our Family Strengthening Network workshop for home visitors, we were treated to a couple terrific presentations: one from Maternal and Child Health Access on how to help families navigate the ever-changing landscape of health insurance, and another from El Nido Family Centers on their Teen Family Services.
El Nido, which provides both Welcome Baby and other home visiting services, is also the largest provider of teen parent services in California, and they invited two young parents to speak about their experience in El Nido’s programs (see video). Scroll down for teen parenting resources you can use if you work with pregnant women and families with young children.

The navigation of health insurance for teen parents is such a moving target, so it’s great to hear Maternal and Child Health Access offered some practical guidance on that. El Nido’s work with teen families sounds invaluable too—I’d love to learn more about what their support program specifically covers.
It’s so crucial to equip home visitors with these kinds of resources, especially when it comes to helping families navigate the constantly changing health insurance system with MCHA. I’d love to hear more about the specific strategies El Nido Family Centers shared regarding their Teen Family Services. Workshops like this are so important for supporting young parents who are trying to figure everything out.
