Webinar: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Safe Infant Sleep
There are about 3,500 sleep-related deaths among babies in the United States each year. This is a significant drop since the early 1990s, when guidelines were issued encouraging parents to put babies to sleep on their backs. But there has been little improvement since the late 1990s, and a recent study showed that less than half of parents adhere to these safe-sleep guidelines.
This webinar covers the latest research on the causes of SIDS and explains what all parents should do to ensure their babies are sleeping as safely as possible.
Thomas G. Keens, MD, conducted this webinar February 13, 2018. Dr. Keens is Chair of the California SIDS Advisory Council, Professor of Pediatrics, Physiology and Biophysics at USC’s Keck School of Medicine, and a physician in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
The webinar was presented to Welcome Baby staff and home visitors in Los Angeles County’s Family Strengthening Network, but the information in not specific to our program or region; home visitors and caregivers anywhere can benefit from his helpful presentation.
